Every one of the music shows on KZSM 104.1 and KZSM.org holds a unique love story about the host’s relationship with the music. On “Big Up Reggae” (Sundays 3-4 p.m.), Lady K (Katherine Nelson) features everything from classic roots reggae to rocksteady, island reggae, rock reggae, dub reggae, and more. Along with recorded music, she sometimes interviews performers who play live in our storefront studio.

SMTX Vagina Monologues is thrilled to announce its annual performance on Feb. 17, at the Wildflower Country Inn and Event Center. This empowering event serves as a fundraiser for the Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center.

I watched the Olympic Marathon trials last week to see which three runners will represent the USA in Paris this summer. I get asked why I watch a bunch of runners for almost three hours. There isn’t the exciting game winning score that other sports have. I think a person has to be a runner to appreciate the level of training that goes into running a marathon. When I use the term runner I am referring more to a person trying to run a fast time and win an award. The jogger that enters to get a tee shirt is not able to understand how fast the runners are moving for the distance of 26.2 miles. I had one woman comment about a friend of hers that ran a marathon. When she was told the distance was 26.2 miles she commented, “My goodness, that is like running to Austin.” Then she asked, “How many days did it take her?” That is why I think a person running for a fast time and 26.2 miles would understand the effort that was being put forth by the competitors.

For one night only, Broke Thespians Theatre Company is performing “Dinner at Eight, Dead by Nine,” a dinner theater production written by Michael Druce. For $15, enjoy a spaghetti dinner and determine who killed the rich and fabulous Eleanor VanHeusen with over 45 minutes of nonstop laughter. The production is a partnership with the Maurice T. Suttles VFW Post 3413, and all proceeds go toward improving the building. The show starts on Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. at the VFW Hall, 1701 Hunter Rd.

Mandy Giles, Founder of Parents of Trans Youth will lead a conversation titled, “Supporting Trans Kids: Building Safe & Inclusive Homes and Communities” at the Dunbar Community Center on Saturday March 2, at 1:30 p.m.

Understanding how soil composition influences plant health, nutrition and the environment

This Valentine’s Day, prepare to be blown away with a romantic interactive glass making experience and live glass blowing demonstrations at Wimberley Glassworks. Participants can opt for a truly hands-on experience by making a Glass Heart. Guests will choose glass colors, roll the hot glass, and sit on the glassblowing bench to finish the piece into a heart shape. This experience takes about 15 minutes.
