William “Bill” Lael Backus, a resident of San Marcos for 77 years, passed away on July 29, 2020 at the age of 86. Bill was born to Lael Oren Backus and Hazell Willie Pickard Backus on March 7, 1934 in Fort Worth, Texas.

Annie Mae Freeman Greenwood of San Marcos, Texas, wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away peacefully on July 24th, 2020. Annie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Johnny Lee Greenwood Sr. Annie is survived by her four sons, John Cornelius Greenwood (Barbara) of San Marcos, TX; Cranz Edward Greenwood (Deborah) of Kyle, TX; Ralph Edmund Greenwood (the late Augusta Limmer) of San Marcos, TX; Johnny Lee Greenwood Jr (Katie) of Austin, TX; Brothers, the late Jewell Freeman; the late Norris Freeman; and Arthur Freeman of San Diego, CA; Sisters, the late Willie Lee White; Gladys Sargent (Emory) of Houston, TX; Sarah Walker (Kenneth) of New Braunfels, TX; Jean Freeman Ball of Kyle, TX; and Josephine Al-Duha of San Antonio, TX; Brother-in-Law, William Edwards of Austin, TX; two granddaughters, Candice Brooke Palermo (Scott) of Kyle, TX and Becky Denise Brown of Dallas, TX; and one great grandson, Caiden Palermo of Kyle, TX.

Jerrold Smith (Jerry) Peters passed away July 22, 2020, in San Marcos, Texas. Jerry was born August 28, 1938, in Crystal City, Texas to Dr. Sam Smith Peters and Helen Juvenal Peters.

Marcelino G. Rivas Jr., 73, of San Marcos, Texas, died on July 18, 2020. Services took place Friday, July 24 at Thomason Funeral Home with interment with military honors following at Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale. Steve was born on July 22, 1971 in Houston, Texas. He spent most of his toddler years at Papa Carl and Grandma Helen’s farm in Elgin. It was a special time and place for him. His family remembers him putting on a hard hat and “working” in the warehouse of his parent’s company as a young boy.
