Obituary

Saturday, August 1, 2020, Domingo "Mingo" C Rodriguez left this earth to be with his heavenly father. At the age of 74. He is preceded in death by his wife Eufemia G Rodriguez and his parents Margarita and Cirildo Rodriguez. We all remember Domingo as the loving, giving person with a great sense of humor.

Robert “Bobby”- “Bob” Olson left our physical world on July 27th 2020 at the age of 71. Bobby is remembered as an eternal gentleman, a man with great charisma who connected with everyone who met him or watched any of his films. He is survived by his talented sisters Arnette and Carla, his beautiful wife Antonella and his dear daughter Romina and grandson Gian Luke.

Rosa Marie Rubrecht Mitchell was born August 29, 1931 in Gainesville, Texas to Ruby Lorraine Cunningham Rubrecht and Johna Rubrecht. Her love of art began at an early age and she landed her first job as an artist at 13 years old as a photographic colorist at her aunt’s studio. Rosa continued this craft by painting for three studios while studying fine art at The University of Texas at Austin. There she met her future husband Raymond Lloyd (Mitch) Mitchell. They married at her mother’s house in Gainesville on Sept. 8, 1949. Rosa quit her formal studies to help put Mitch through college.

Virginia Sue Keen was born in the small town of Tioga, Texas. She grew up as a farm girl. Her family later moved to Cypress Fairbanks, Texas, where she was involved in FFA. She was a champion barrel racer and rodeo queen—a real cowgirl.

Betty Lou Campbell neé Swearinger, 95, of Seguin, Texas, died on July 27, 2020. Because of the current COVID-19 pandemic, no memorial service is planned at this time. Long time resident, Edward Ray Green, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, following a brief illness. Ed Green grew up in Lamesa, Texas and went into the U.S. Navy straight out of high school. After four year of service, he returned from the Navy, he returned to Lamesa, married Marilyn Irene Mitchell and moved to San Marcos in 1962. Ed worked in cattle at the Green Valley Cattle Company before purchasing Green Florist Flower Shop. He later sold the business and was hired on Butler Manufacturing as a plant manager before retiring on June 30, 1999.

Johnny Anthony Pulido, Sr., 65, of Kyle, Texas, died on July 23, 2020. Visitation will take place at Thomason Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, August 2 and will include a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. A funeral mass will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 3 at the Saint Anthony Marie de Claret Catholic Church in Kyle, Texas with interment to follow at the San Marcos City Cemetery. William “Bill” Lael Backus, a resident of San Marcos for 77 years, passed away on July 29, 2020 at the age of 86. Bill was born to Lael Oren Backus and Hazell Willie Pickard Backus on March 7, 1934 in Fort Worth, Texas.

John Thomas Spiller, 62, of Lockhart, Texas, died on July 25, 2020. Services took place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 1 at the Mineral Springs Baptist Church.
