Children’s books author speaks at school

DEAR ABBY: I love to travel, yet I loathe traveling with my husband. He gets anxious and extremely mean on the days leading up to the trip and especially while en route. I do all the planning and pay for everything, and I regard it as not only ungrateful and rude, but unnecessary. Is it wrong for me to not want him to come on the next big trip I plan?

Texas State has announced the inaugural President’s Leadership Class (PLC) cohort, a selective leadership program for first-year students entering the university.

The easy way or the hard way.

As the country enters the cold and flu illness season, Texas physicians warn there are three viruses lurking in the air–the influenza virus that causes the flu, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Physicians say the best way to say safe–especially for those at greatest risk of severe illness–is to vaccinate against all three.

The Hays County Fire Marshal’s office notified the community that the countywide burn ban in the unincorporated areas of the county was lifted, effective at 11 a.m. on Oct. 5.

The Hays County Sheriff’s Office is investigating as a possible fentanyl overdose the death on Monday, Oct. 2, of a 15-year-old female student enrolled in the Hays Consolidated Independent School District.

As part of Sociology Week at Texas State University, Krzysztof Konecki, Ph.D., chair of Sociology at the University of Lodz in Poland, will discuss the efforts to evacuate Ukrainian scholars from the war zone.

DEAR ABBY: My husband and I are expecting our first child this year. I moved to the United States a few years ago to be with him. His family is mostly absent from our lives. I have tried to make an effort with my inlaws, but it’s always met with failure. They make excuses, so we have come to accept that we see them only during holidays. It has put a strain on our marriage.

The Greater San Marcos Youth Council donated school supplies to Gary Job Corps staff families, to get the school year off to a fine start. GSMSYC and the Gary Job Corps have partnered for two decades, collaborating on everything from helping the youth at Christmas to assisting with projects. The most recent activity was the Community Bingo held at the Espinoza Recreation Center. GSMYC operates a private non-profit Children’s Shelter for children 2-17.
