Texas State loses to Troy following disastrous seventh inning

Saturday, May 11, 2024

A diasterous 7th inning proved to be the difference maker in the Bobcats 5-3 loss to the No. 21 Troy Trojans.

It was a frustrating loss for the Bobcats and Head Coach Steven Trout who now fall to 25-26 overall and 11-15 in conference play.

“Obviously we got off to a great start and Drayton Brown threw the ball really well,” Trout said. “Other than that we just fell apart in that one inning. We gave up too many walks and pretty much [Troy] didn’t earn the win. We just handed it to them. That’s the frustrating part.”

The Bobcats got on the board in the second inning. With runners on first and second, catcher August Ramirez blasted a three-run home run, putting Texas State up 3-0.

Starting pitcher Drayton Brown kept the Troy bats off the scoreboard, throwing five innings and allowing just one hit, no runs, two walks while striking out two batters.

But disaster struck the Bobcats in the 7th inning.

Despite Texas State getting their second out of the inning, Troy scored their first run of the series with a RBI single.

Then the Bobcats walked the Troy batter to load up the bases before walking in three consecutive runs and hitting a batter to score another run.

After getting the final out, the Trojans now led 5-3.

Texas State was unable to answer as Troy took Game 2 of the three game series.

The Bobcats and the Trojans meet up in the rubber match Sunday at noon.
