Stay connected with KZSM live updates

Every weekday at noon, KZSM.org broadcasts a live update on our current COVID-19 emergency. We talk to a wide range of callers, including officials such as Mayor Jane Hughson, Judge Ruben Becerra, and Hays County Commissioner Lon Shell. Local business owners describe their efforts to stay viable and continue to serve their customers. We learn what’s being done to help underserved populations such as the homeless by interviewing social service providers like Ruben Garza of the Southside Community Center.

Behind Closed Doors: Children at Risk

We know that all of us are focused on the current COVID-19 crisis and adjusting to all the changes that it has brought to everyone. Hays-Caldwell Women's Center has made significant adjustments as we continue to respond to the needs of local victims of abuse. They need us even more now and part of our responsibility is to advocate and educate on their behalf. April is both Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Awareness month. The following article is the first article of a four-week series focusing on raising awareness about sexual assault and child abuse. 2 in 5 women and 1 in 5 men will experience a form of sexual assault in their lifetime.

The Sadler home on Hopkins Street is a typical craftsman-style home. With beautiful mature plantings and a spacious front porch from which to take them in, it is the Spring Lake Garden Club's April Yard of the Month. Photos by Sharon Lockett

April Yard of the Month

Approaching 100 years, the craftsman bungalow chosen as April’s Yard of the Month by Spring Lake Garden Club is a handsome example of popular residential architecture and landscaping in the 1920s and 1930s in urban areas of the United States.
