Mary M. Prado (Mom Mary) was born in San Marcos, Texas on Feb. 10, 1950 to mother Elida Guerrero Rios, and passed away on Jan. 29, 2019 at the age of 68. Mary was a dedicated and hard worker at Texas State University as a custodial supervisor for 28 years before she retired in February 2011. Mary enjoyed dancing and listening to Tejano music, especially to Roberto Pulido, Little Joe, Jimmy Gonzalez and Ruben Ramos. Mary loved to be outside watering her plants, all 28 of them, and taking care of her yard making sure her grass was green.

Mary was raised by her maternal grandmother, Guadalupe Carrillo Guerrero. Mary was a loving mother and grandmother. Mary carried on both parental roles in 1986 when her husband passed away. Mary was an incredibly strong person and she made us who we are today. Mary loved family get-togethers when she would spend hours cooking and preparing meals for her family’s company. Mary was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and she recited the Holy Rosary daily and would attend mass on Saturdays.

Mary is survived by her significant other, Sam Perez whom she devoted her love to for 25 years. She is also survived by her son, Gilbert Prado Jr. and wife Melissa; daughters, Nancy De Leon and husband Robert, Cindy Esquivel and husband Candelario, Sandra Rains and husband Donald, Elida Esquivel and husband Sean. In addition, her grandchildren, Bobby G. De Leon, Robert De Leon, Tiffany Prado Esquivel, John Diaz, Ashley Prado, Oscar De Leon, Gilbert Esquivel, Uriah Esquivel, Yesenia Esquivel, Isaiah De Leon, Sean Esquivel, Jr., Lyla Rains, Jeremiah Prado, and Harlee Rains along with her great grandchildren, Aidan De Leon, Josiah De Leon, Joshua De Leon, Devin Perez, Alijah De Leon, Alidan De Leon, Adrian Hernandez, Daivin Gutierrez, Zayven De Leon, Isabeya De Leon, Anthony Esquivel, Khloe Diaz, Abigail De Leon, Julius De Leon, Zakariah De Leon, Noah De Leon, Roman Ramos, and Zaylee De Leon all of who knew they could only refer to her as Mom Mary.

Mary is also survived by her brothers, Joe Guerrero, Freddie Guerrero, Willie Rios and Jessie Guerrero; sisters, Josie Guerrero and Gloria Gonzales, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Prado Sr.; son, Ronnie Prado; mother, Elida Guerrero Rios; grandmother, Guadalupe Carrillo Guerrero; brothers, Robert and Eddie Rios; and son-in-law, Roy Lopez.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., Monday, Feb. 4, 2019 with Recitation of Holy Rosary held at 7 p.m., Thomason Funeral Home, 2001 Old Ranch Rd. 12, San Marcos, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 624 E. Hopkins, San Marcos, Texas. Her final resting place will be at San Marcos City Cemetery where she will have a view of her old workplace, Blanco Building at Texas State University.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Bobby G. De Leon, Robert De Leon, John Diaz, Oscar De Leon, Gilbert Esquivel, Uriah Esquivel, Isaiah De Leon, Sean Esquivel Jr., along with honorary pallbearer, Jeremiah Prado.
