Roque Gonzales
Roque was a World War II Veteran. He worked as a cook in several local restaurants as well as Gary Job Corps, and Sholtz Garden in Austin, Texas. Roque also worked for Southwest Texas University and retired after 10 years due to a heart condition. He later opened up his own business called Rocky’s Tamale Ranch. His hobbies were boxing and playing the accordion. Roque married his wife Ruth in 1947 in San Marcos.
Roque is preceded in death by his father Roque Gonzales Sr., mother Josephine Gonzales, sisters Dora Torres, Delia Villareal and Rosa Garza; daughter Mary Ann Gonzales, grandson Frank Christopher Torres and great grandson Augustine Sykes.
Roque is survived by his wife Ruth, his sons Rocky Gonzales and wife Teresa of Bakersfield, California, Rudy Gonzales and wife Argentina of Bryan, Texas, daughters Sylvia Vargas , Diane Quiroga and husband Mario of both of San Marcos,Texas.
Roque had 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m.-9 p.m., Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at the Los Angeles Funeral Home, 300 Cheatham St., San Marcos, Texas. with Recitation of Holy Rosary held at 7 p.m., Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 624 E. Hopkins, San Marcos, Texas. Pallbearers are Freedom Machado, Christopher Torres, David Gonzales, Gabriel Gonzales, Rico Gonzales, Rocky Rios and Abram Rios.
