Jeffrey Himes Kester
Jeffrey Kester, aged 73, of San Marcos, Texas, passed away on October 23, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of service, love, and dedication to his community. Born on November 8, 1950, in Biloxi, Mississippi, Jeff was the cherished son of William and Betty Lou Kester. He graduated from Bryan Adams High School in Dallas and studied architecture at the University of Texas in Austin. Jeff's career as a program manager for Texas Parks and Wildlife spanned 18 years, during which he made significant contributions to the parks in the eastern part of Texas. He moved to San Marcos in 1973, where he remapped the city of San Marcos, naming streets in honor of his beloved wife and children. In true Jeff fashion, as he remapped the streets, he noticed the road leading to the wastewater treatment plant was unnamed and submitted the name 'Smell Road', but he was caught and the name is 'Smell Road' only in our memories. Jeff's architectural efforts in San Marcos helped revive the Dunbar Center, Calaboose Museum, Fish Hatchery, and other historic sites. He was also a proud member of the San Marcos Heritage Association. Jeff was active in the Bahá'í faith and passionate about working towards racial healing in his community. His famous banner 'One Planet, One People, Please' became a symbol of his dedication at parades. Jeff is survived by his loving wife, Rhea Schuring Kester, his sisters, Debbie (and Dwain) Bewley and Marci (and Neil) Brown, his sons, Craig (and Jill) Meurer, Gabriel Kester, and Nurani (and Angela) Kester, and his grandchildren: Jessica Meurer Sobhani, Kelsey Meurer, Avery Jeffery, Braden Kester, Cayman Kester, Andi Kester, River Kester, Sarah Kester, and his great-grandchildren: Sophia Sobhani, Aria Sobhani, Miles Kester, and James Jeffery. A memorial service was held at the San Marcos City Cemetery on October 25, 2024, where family and friends celebrated Jeff's remarkable life. Jeffrey Kester will be greatly missed and forever cherished by all who knew him.
