Sharon Gail Walters Fleming

Sharon Gail Walters Fleming was called home to the Lord on October 1, 2024. 'Gail,' as she was known to her friends and family was born in Huntsville, Texas on January 8, 1951 to J. C. and Margie Walters. She spent her early life in the shade of East Texas pine trees and moved with her family to San Marcos in 1965. She attended San Marcos High school where she was a majorette and a Gold Cord graduate. After high school, she attended Southwest Texas while working at what was then the San Marcos Telephone Company in Directory Assistance. She became almost supernaturally adept at proofreading the telephone directory, spotting errors without reference to orders. Gail continued in charge of the directory after the company became CenturyTel, and resigned in the early '90's when the office was moved to Monroe, Louisiana. She made many life-long friends and treasured her time with special friend Elizabeth Schnautz, with whom she traveled the Midwest.

Sharon Gail Walters Fleming January 8, 1951 — October 1, 2024

Gail loved antiques and collectables. Everywhere she went, she sought out those places that held treasures from the past. Twice a year, she attended the antique fair at Roundtop and eventually established a booth in an antique mall in Conroe with her sister Kay. Gail married David Fleming in 1971 and together they raised two beautiful and talented daughters, Bethany Baker and Rebekah Cook.

In a busy life of service to others, she played the piano at New Hope Baptist Church for thirty-three years and was actively involved in the ministries of that church. She was also the president of the Redwood Cemetery Association. At home, she designed and decorated, and every baby in the family received one of her crocheted blankets. But where she excelled the most was in the love and care of her family.

Gail is survived by her husband David of fifty- three years; daughter Bethany Baker, Son-inlaw Colonel Mike Baker, grandson Henry Baker; daughter Rebekah Cook, son-in-law Aaron Cook, granddaughters Riley and Carson Cook. She is also survived by sister Kay Terhune and brother-in-law, Eddie Terhune.

Her love for her family, her faith, and her beautiful presence will be missed even as we celebrate these gifts in memory of her life. Memorial Service at 2:00 pm, October 12 at Pennington Funeral Home 323 N. Comanche St.,

San Marcos, Texas.
