Gloria Maria Echevarria (neé Rosa) of San Marcos, TX, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2024 at the age of 80. Gloria was born April 8,1944 in Cayey, Puerto Rico, then moved in 1946 to New York City with her mother, Maximina Rosa. At 17 she returned to Puerto Rico, where she met US Air Force airman Baltasar Echevarria. They married on April 22, 1962, and shared 60 years of inspirational love before his death in 2022. As a military wife, Gloria spent 30 years raising her family around the world. She was active in NCO Wives’ Club, Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, and many Catholic ministries, selflessly giving of herself to community endeavors. Gloria always sought new experiences. She painted, read, acted, crafted, cooked, studied, and explored the world. Her motto was “Where’s your spirit of adventure?” Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, mother, and brother, Enrique Rosa. She is survived by her sisters, Maria Amparo Sanchez and Olga Elena Ruiz; her 5 children and their spouses: Maria Elena (Russ) Louch, Mario (Annette) Echevarria, Monica Echevarria (Randy Summers), Daniel (Kelly) Echevarria, and Veronica (Michael) Fuller; her 11 grandchildren: Melanie, David, Mark, Sarah, Gloria, Anthony, Elaina, Gabby, Jessica, Alexis, and Andrew; and her 12 great-grandchildren. Visitation is Thursday, October 10, 5-7PM at Pennington Funeral Home, 323 N. Comanche St., San Marcos, Texas, 78666, with rosary following at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, October 11 at 10 AM at St. Anthony Marie de Claret Catholic Church, 801 N. Burleson St., Kyle, TX 78640.
