, was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who passed away surrounded by his loving family on the afternoon of May 17, 2024 in San Marcos, Texas at the age of 81. He was born on September 11, 1942, in Kyle, Texas.
Mayo's laughter and generosity touched the lives of many in his community.
Mayo shared a life full of love and devotion for 60 years with his beloved wife Eloisa Sierra, who survives him. Together, they raised a beautiful family, including their daughters Linda (& husband Eleazar) and Rebecca (& husband Gabriel Sr). He was a proud grandfather to Ashley (& fiancee Laura), Emily, Minerva, Juan, and Gabriel Jr., along with his step-grandchildren Adam, Gabby, Bryan, and numerous great grandchildren. He also leaves a legacy of love and laughter in his surviving siblings, brothers Jose, Juan 'John', Narcisco 'Chico', Jose Angel ' Joe', and David, along with his sister Lupe Hernandez.
Mayo now joins his children Johnny and Olga, along with his parents Juanita Tristan Sierra and Jose Angel Sierra Sr., and brothers Arturo 'Art', Frank, and Gilbert, who preceded him in death.
For many years, Mayo had a career as a talented painter at Texas State University, where his meticulous work and friendly nature were well-known and appreciated.
Mayo was a man of many interests, with a particular passion for fishing, cooking, carpentry, and painting. His ability to create and fix anything with his hands was remarkable. Friends and family often sought his expertise, knowing that Mayo could always be counted on to lend a hand. His selfless nature was evident in everything he did, and his absence will be felt deeply.
Mayo lived a life full of purpose and love. He will be missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Mayo's legacy will continue to inspire and bring warmth to the hearts of those he leaves behind. His life was a testament to the beauty of simplicity, the strength of character, and the power of a life well-lived.
Visitation will be at Thomason Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m., with a Rosary beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 30th. Mass will be at St. John's Catholic Church in San Marcos at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 31st. Burial will be immediately after mass at Memorial Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery Pavilion.
