Nancy Lee Schnautz

entered this world November 15, 1937 and departed it on April 13, 2024. She attended Stephen F. Austin High School and The University of Texas in Austin before entering medical school. After she received her Medical Degree in 1962, she completed a residency in Pediatrics and had a successful practice in Galveston for several years.

Her longstanding interest in behavioral medicine led her to leave her private practice and complete a residency in Adult and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. She subsequently practiced Child & Adolescent Psychiatry in the Galveston-Texas City area for over a decade before returning to central Texas to join the medical staff at The San Marcos Treatment Center, a division of The Brown Schools. She subsequently became Executive Medical Director of The San Marcos Treatment Center and The Oaks Treatment Center until her retirement in 2000.

Dr. Schnautz' 38-year career of working with children and adolescents was highlighted by her integrity and compassion in caring for children and their families. In addition to her professional career, she found great pleasure in time spent with family and friends.

Since retiring, Dr. Schnautz remained active in gardening and enjoyed having more time to visit with family and friends.

As a Christian, she fully believed that the real world for living is 'on the other side' where she now resides.

Dr. Schnautz was preceded in death by her son, Jason Travis Schnautz; her brother, Henry Travis Schnautz, Jr.; and her parents, Lucy and Henry Schnautz. Sr. She is survived by her sister, Sarah Torluemke; niece, Debrah H. Candelas; great nephews and a great niece; and numerous friends and colleagues.

Memorial services will be at Thomason Funeral Home in San Marcos on May 18 at 2 p.m. Following the service, burial will take place at Oliver Cemetery. Friends are invited to join her family at Jack Allen's in Oak Hill for refreshments and a celebration of Nancy's life.
