, 85, of San Marcos, Texas passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at Sage Springs in San Marcos, Texas. She was born at home in San Marcos to Edwin Lamar and Alberta Lavenia (Cartwright) Smith on October 31, 1938, the second of two children.

Duane, fondly called 'Sister' by her older brother Lamar (Maury), grew up in San Marcos playing with life long friends in her neighborhood and at her family's cotton gin, The OC Smith Cotton Gin. She graduated Valedictorian from San Marcos High School in 1956, where she was a majorette. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos in 1960.

Duane had become the girlfriend of the love of her life, Bobby Dale Dupree, in the 8th grade where they met during an assembly. From that day forward, Bobby Dale would always sign cards BDD 8 -3 (for 8th grade, section 3). They married on June 23, 1962, at the First Baptist Church in San Marcos and remained together for 62 years.

Edith Duane is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Lamar Smith and her husband, Bobby Dale Dupree. Duane is survived by her son, Christopher Dupree, and daughter Laurie Brown and fiancé Bennie Wyly; grandchildren Sarah Brown, William Brown and wife Mariah, Hannah and Reagan Dupree; and great-grandchildren, Riley Benek, William Jr. and Jameson Brown; and several nieces and nephews.

Contributions in 's memory can be made to her charities: The Histiocytosis Association and Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child.

Visitation will begin at 1:00pm on Monday, May 6, 2024, with Services following at 2:00pm, at Pennington Funeral Home, 323 N. Comanche St., San Marcos, Texas. Burial will follow at San Marcos City Cemetery.
