Cassia Hodge

September 4, 1925 March 20, 2024

Cassia passed peacefully in her sleep on the first day of Spring, Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at the New Hope Manor home in Cedar Park, Texas Cassia was born on September 4, 1925 to Jim and Josie Offield in Afton, Texas. She grew up in a big family with eight siblings. She married Harry W Hodges, and they eventually settled in Ganado, Texas. Together they had five beautiful daughters before his passing in 1960.

Cassia took on multiple jobs to care for her family. She worked as a seamstress and waitress in Ganado and then moved the family to Austin, Texas where she bought her first house. In Austin she continued her work as a waitress and hostess while her daughters were in school. Then, she took on a job at Sears & Roebuck where she had a very successful tenure.

After spending 15 years working day and night ensuring her daughters were taken care of, she married U.L. Hodge in 1975 and moved to The Country Estates, San Marcos. She celebrated countless family gatherings here over the years. Her love and hospitality was a blessing to everyone who visited. She attended the University Church of Christ and made many friends there.

Cassia worked as a bookkeeper at Tuttle Lumber in San Marcos, was an avid reader and gardener and she loved to can fruits and vegetables. The long daily walks she took through the Country Estates are surely one of the activities that led to her healthy and long life.

We will always remember her as being full of faith, fairness, and love. She took the Lord’s teachings into her heart and day to day life.

She was lovingly survived by 3 daughters, 2 sons-in-law, 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren and many dear friends.

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 30, 2024 from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at Pennington Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 11 A.M. in the Pennington Chapel. Burial will follow in the San Marcos City Cemetery.
