Annie 'Ann' Laura Russell Perkins
Annie 'Ann' Laura Russell Perkins, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother was called to her heavenly home at the age of 79 on March 22, 2024. Ann was born in Mexia, TX on July 18, 1944. She was placed for adoption by her birth parents due to the war and hard times. At the age of 2 she met her forever and loving parents Ralph and Edna Earl Russell.
She graduated from Waco High School in 1962. After high school she attended Southwest Texas State College in San Marcos. While attending SWTC she met the love of her life Roy Perkins on a blind date. They were married on April 13, 1963 in Waco, TX. Ann and Roy welcomed their only child Donna Lynn Perkins on May 18, 1964. Donna was the light of her life. In 1985 Ann and Roy welcomed their only granddaughter Rhonda Altenhoff Giesen into the world. She would always remind Rhonda, 'you are my favorite granddaughter'. In 2008 they welcomed the first of two great grandchildren, Mackenzie Giesen and in 2010 Preslee Giesen. Ann was affectionately known to her family as 'Oma'.
She was an avid reader and movie enthusiast. She loved to fish and enjoyed spending time at the ranch with her family and feeding the horses. Cooking for her family was one of her favorite enjoyments. She had the uncanny ability to take nothing and turn it into a 5 course meal. She loved her crafts and sewing. For nearly 40 years she prepared and hosted the yearly Thanksgiving dinner for her family and friends.
She received her Bachelor of Science in Education in May of 1970 from SWT. She continued her education and received double Masters degrees in Education from SWT in August of 1981. Ann was an amazing teacher, mentor, and colleague. She taught in SMCISD at Bowie Elementary for 30 years. Following her retirement from SMCISD in 2000, she continued her teaching career for another 6 years at the Wonderland School of San Marcos. Her love for teaching was dear to her heart. Ann served as the GT teacher at Bowie for many years. One of the many things she enjoyed were the musical plays she orchestrated for her 5th grade students. The energy and passion she demonstrated in and out of the classroom left a lasting impression in the lives of many.
Ann is survived by her loving husband Roy Perkins, daughter Donna Perkins, Granddaughter Rhonda Giesen and Husband Jason. Great Granddaughters Mackenzie and Preslee Giesen.
