of San Marcos, Texas passed away on January 11, 2024 at the age of 96. She was born July 31, 1927 in Greensboro, North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Monroe Mebane Case and Mary Bennett Case, and her husband of 62 years, Dr. John Robert Whalin.

She is survived by son and daughter-inlaw Brent and Dianna Whalin; daughter, Kimberly Whalin Lock, and her grandsons Gene, Ryan, Sean, and Jayce.

Mary graduated from Women's College of the University of North Carolina in 1954, and received her Masters degree at Indian University in 1960. She moved to San Marcos, Texas in 1964 when her husband got a position teaching piano at Texas State University. Mary taught music at Goodwin Frazier Elementary School until her retirement in 1993.

She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She also sang in the choir at the Presbyterian Church in New Braunfels and St Martin's Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas. She was loved and will be missed by many.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 23rd at 2:00pm at Pennington Funeral Home, 323 N. Comanche St., San Marcos, Texas.
