Alan “Big Al” Riley January 22, 1957 February 15, 2024

In San Marcos, under the vast Texas sky, the world has bid farewell to a man known affectionately as Big Al Riley. Born amidst the winter’s embrace on the twenty-second of January, 1957, his journey came to a gentle close on the fifteenth of February, 2024.

Survived by the legacy of two children, Jeremy and Julia, Big Al’s essence lingers in the laughter and the silent strength they carry forth. A son, Jonathon too, journeyed ahead, where the mysteries of the beyond have unfolded before him, and Big Al’s parents, who once cradled him into this world, have welcomed their son into the tranquil repose of eternity.

Within the hallowed halls of Fremont High School, Class of 1974 where he excelled in debate, Big Al’s youthful footsteps still echo, a ghostly cadence that speaks of dreams and days of yore. Big Al was a carpenter by trade and worked for many years with Steve Erickson, his best friend and owner of Texas Quality Construction. He was a Grateful Dead fan and attended the Dead Show in Dallas, TX in 2023. He was not going to miss the event and rode a bus to catch his favorite band. Additionally, when schedule allowed, Big Al would not miss attending the annual Just for Fun Parade with his lifelong friend, Codie Arnold and others. He was an expert with crossword puzzles and a Jeopardy aficionado. Big Al was loved by many, he was a sweet and kind human being that loved to cook and grill for his friends whenever possible.

A memorial is scheduled for Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Showdown, 207 E. Hutchison, San Marcos, TX 78666 from 2pm - 6pm. Pot luck snacks are welcomed.
