Pablo “Paul” Luera, Jr.

Pablo “Paul” Luera, Jr., of Martindale passed away on October 19, 2021, at the age of 73 surrounded by his family. He was born on April 30, 1948 in Kyle, TX, to Pablo Luera and Antonia Hernandez Luera.

At the age of 20, he enlisted in the US Army without hesitation. During his time in the military, he served as a Sergeant in the Vietnam War and was awarded the National Defense Service Metal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star Medal.

He worked for Texas State University and retired in 2012 after 28 years of employment. After retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family and always kept busy working on his yard or projects around the house, and he enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Celia Trevino; brother Raymond Luera; and nephew John Paul Trevino.

Paul is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Eva Luera; daughter Stacey Martinez (Ezequiel); grandchildren Ezequiel Martinez, Jr, Daniella Martinez, and Karina Martinez; brother Joe (Margie) Luera; sisters Sylvia Camacho and Laura Luera; and brother-in-law Richard Trevino. He is also survived by his godsons whom he loved very much, Mitchell Meitler, Julian Munoz, and Juan Carlos Munoz; and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.

Visitation will be Monday, October 25, 2021 beginning at 5 p.m., with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. at Pennington Funeral Home. On Tuesday, October 26th, at 9:15AM, the procession will leave Pennington Funeral Home for the Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Martindale, Texas. Burial will follow at Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale. Serving as pallbearers are Mitchell Meitler, Julian Munoz, Juan Carlos Munoz, Brandon Bruno, Jose Luera, Jr., and Alex Camacho. Honorary pallbearers are Richard Trevino, Jr and Nathaniel Cuevas.
