After high school he joined the Navy and served as a Gunner's Mate during WWII. He attended Southwest Texas State College and the University of Texas where he received a Masters Degree. He worked for the Department of Defense at Brooks Air Force Base as a Statistician and retired at a very early age and moved from San Antonio to Kingsland, Texas where he enjoyed playing golf, boating, jet-sking and working in yard.

Bob is survived by his three children, Larry Bales (Kathy), Beverly Thompson (Robert), and Leslie Norman (Dunnie), four grand children, Ann Lord (Daniel), Trey Thompson (Crystal), Robert Bales and Teague Norman, and a great grandson, Oliver Thompson.

A celebration of life and burial with be at a later date at the family plot in San Marcos, Texas.
