Kathleen Alexander Tucker
Kathleen Alexander Tucker
Kathleen was a small child with a big spirit and heart. She did handstands on the outside of the house, walked the picket fence, and played with her sister Jean. Despite the family losing the farm and living through the depression, she never lost her generous and kind heart. Kathleen and her sister Jean lived with an aunt in Cisco, TX for a number of years when her mother was hospitalized in San Antonio. Kathleen lost her mother when she was about 18 and it always left a big hole in her life as her mother always called Kathleen her shadow as she followed her around everywhere.
She met her future husband Thomas Blackwell Tucker while working in a finance office that her sister Clyde managed when Thomas called on the company as a salesman from an office supply company. They married in March 6, 1942. Kathleen took business classes in Austin, TX and was a wiz at numbers and a great money manager. You could ask her the date of someone’s birthday or anniversary and she knew it, she didn’t need to look it up.
Kathleen was creative and made heirlooms of quilts, potholders and embroidered placemats and tablecloths. She liked to arrange flowers and belonged to garden clubs. She was inventive and loved to sing. She talked about her father singing tenor in the church choir. She loved to dance and was limber into her 80’s, quick to do a backbend for you. She especially loved pretty things, and fine china with flower patterns. She started collecting china in her 20’s when her son was ill. She was able to live out her life at home amongst the pretty things she loved. She died March 20, 2020.
Kathleen lived her entire life in Texas. She was raised in the Presbyterian Church and love sustained her life. She was a people-person. She never met a stranger and especially loved children and older people. She always said she was just a little girl who grew old. She loved to bake, loved to send cards, loved to give surprises, loved to follow baseball, and was an intuitive person who was compassionate and a good listener.
Her husband Thomas died November 16, 1986. Kathleen moved from Houston to San Marcos in 2000.
She is survived by her son Gary B. Tucker and his wife Sabrina, her daughter Jan Warren and her husband Joe, grandchildren, Thomas, Laura, Mark, & Nancy, & her great-grandchildren, Brendon, Ashlynn, Hayden, Forrest, Victoria, Patrick, Shelby, and Natasha, and nieces and nephews and their spouses, and beloved friends Christina, Sherry and Huda.
