Zwiener files for reelection, set to host town hall Sunday

Sunday, December 12, 2021

State Rep. Erin Zwiener (D-Driftwood) officially filed for reelection on Dec. 5.

Zwiener, who represents House District 45, is currently serving her second term in the Texas House.

“I’m so honored by the trust residents of House District 45 have placed in me, and I look forward to continuing to fight on their behalf,” Zwiener said. “Texas is at a precarious moment in history, and we need everyone to stand firm against the waves of anti-science and anti-democratic extremism washing over our state and endangering our democracy.”

Zwiener serves as the Vice Chair of the Appropriations, Article III subcommittee, which oversees the education budget, and on the Public Health and House Administration Committees. She also founded and serves as the Chair of the Texas House Caucus on Climate, Environment, and the Energy Industry, the first environmental caucus in the history of the Texas Legislature and serves as the Secretary of the Texas House LGBTQ Caucus.

“This year I passed legislation to protect workers from sexual harassment, funded an audit into local emergency communications, advanced legislation to decriminalize cannabis, secured funding for student financial aid, and stopped bad legislation that would have eliminated local worker protections and that would have taken away tools to fight climate change from our cities and counties,” Zwiener said. “There’s still so much work to do, and I intend to keep fighting for common sense solutions and equality for all Texans.”

During redistricting, Zwiener was originally drawn out of House District 45’s boundaries as population increases in Hays County required it to be separated between multiple state house districts for the first time. Zwiener, however, was ultimately drawn back into HD 45. The new House District 45 will include approximately 201,000 Hays County residents in Kyle, Buda, San Marcos, Driftwood, and Austin, all of whom Zwiener currently represents. Approximately 40,000 Hays County residents in Wimberley, Driftwood, and Dripping Springs will join Comal County in House District 73, and Blanco County will join the western edge of Travis County and Gillespie, Burnet, and Kendall Counties in House District 19.

Zwiener to host town hall in San Marcos

Zwiener will host a Town Hall for House District 45 on Sunday at Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos where she will discuss the 87th Legislative Session and the additional special sessions.

During the town hall, she will answer from constituents. Zwiener’s office said attendees will be encouraged to social distance when possible, wear masks, and sanitize their hands before and after the event.

Sunday’s town hall takes place at 211 Lee Street between 1-2:30 p.m. The event will also be livestream on Zwiener’s Facebook page.
