San Marcos to hold free virus testing site

San Marcos residents will be able to receive additional free COVID-19 testing this week.

Testing will be offered daily at Ramon Lucio Park from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., beginning on Monday. Funding for testing is provided by the Texas Division of Emergency Management and will be managed jointly by Hays County and the City of San Marcos.

Testing is also being offered in Kyle, Dripping Springs and Wimberley.

Free coronavirus testing in Kyle began on Friday and is offered daily from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Hays Consolidated ISD Performing Arts Center, 979 Kohlers Crossing. COVID-19 testing also began Friday at The Triangle in Dripping Springs, 151 Mercer St., which is being conducted 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Wimberley Activity Center — 221 Stillwater Road — will begin holding free coronavirus testing on Tuesday. The Wimberley location will have tests available Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

These newly announced testing stations will continue indefinitely, the City of San Marcos said. Testing will be conducted with oral swab tests.

As of Friday, there are currently 1,277 active COVID-19 cases and there have been 5,951 total cases. San Marcos had tallied 3,010 total cases, including 328 active cases. The Hays County Local Health Department reports that 4,619 county residents have recovered from the disease.

Those wanting to be tested at these sites can participate with or without symptoms present. The city said appointments are recommended, however, walk-ups will be accepted. Appointments can be made at curativetest.com.
