San Marcos Academy added five students to the National Junior Honor Society at an induction ceremony on Feb. 18. Inducted from the freshman class was Jazel DeOliveira, while eighth grade inductees were Elli Hao and Andrew Ni. In the seventh grade, inductees were Lauren Hurst and Jesilyn Reyes-Darley.
Officers for the organization are Mitchell Howard, president; Ili Sommerlatte, vice president; Mia Clay, secretary; and Layton Schawe, treasurer. Sponsors of the organization are Tamra Howe and Hannah Flowers. Other members of the NJHS are Liam Adcock, Chris Allsup, Grace Barrett, Gabby Barrientos, Nathaniel Blackstone, Sarah Britton, Ella Burton, Jacey Cano, Zach Christensen, Kellee Cummings, Alden Epps, Emma Feigl, Lyndon Fischer, Braydon Hurst, Anna Kerwin, Cole Krackau, Timothy Murphy, Joyce Njabi, Austin Payne, Temi Ogunyomade, Selah Portis, Katie Seebeck, and Cherry Vasquez.
The Sigma Mu Alpha chapter of the National Junior Honor Society at SMA was chartered in 1947. Students in grades 7-9 are eligible for membership and are selected based on the criteria of scholarship, leadership, service, character and citizenship.
