Gary Carman, retired professor of economics and finance at Texas State, was honored by his Retired Faculty and Staff Association colleagues recently for his work with the Association’s Investment Club.
Carman, who retired 13 years ago, began and has headed the Investment Club since shortly after the
Association itself was begun in 2006. Interested Association members were invited to join him several times a year to swap advice on finances. He was honored at a luncheon at San Marcos BBQ.
“I had a good career at the university,” he said at the event, “and I say with all sincerity, that most of my professional goals were achieved because the university provided the support that I needed. And, now I am honored by friends and colleagues. No greater honor have I ever received!”
Carman came to Texas State in 1978 after faculty positions at Northwest Missouri State, Loras College in Iowa, the University of Dallas and Texas A&M-Commerce. He earned his Ph.D. at SMU in 1973. Upon his retirement, the Texas State University Board of Regents awarded him the title of Distinguished Professor Emeritus.
