Eastern edge of San Marcos can still apply for help from FEMA in Guadalupe County

DISASTER DECLARATION
Thursday, June 27, 2024

FEMA opened a Disaster Recovery Center in San Marcos for Guadalupe County residents affected by May 9 weather event. Many addresses in the Redwood area, which was hit harder than many others, are still in San Marcos but are a part of Guadalupe County as San Marcos addresses extend beyond the Hays County line.

From June 14 to June 23, the Federal Emergency Management Agency established a Disaster Recovery Center at the Redwood Community Center at 2045 Spruce Street in San Marcos. The center was dedicated to assisting Guadalupe County residents impacted by the severe weather event on May 9. Although FEMA is no longer on site as of Sunday, eligible residents may still qualify for disaster assistance from FEMA and the Small Business Administration. The FEMA application deadline is July 16.

Residents of Guadalupe County are strongly encouraged to contact FEMA to determine their eligibility for assistance. Contact can be made online at DisasterAssistance.gov or by phone at 1-800-621-3362 between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. Help is available in most languages. If using a relay service, such as video relay, captioned telephone or other, please provide FEMA with the number for that service.

When contacting FEMA, please reference the disaster number TX4781-TX.

Texans who experienced property damage are also urged to report their damage using the Texas Division of Emergency Management’s online Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool by visiting damage. tdem.texas.gov. Reporting disaster damage to TDEM assists officials in connecting impacted Texans with resources and services and aids in determining if federal disaster assistance thresholds have been met.

For further information contact Patrick Pinder, Guadalupe County Emergency Management Coordinator at patrick.pinder@co.guadalupe.tx.us or the Emergency Management Coordination Department number at 830-303-8856.
