The San Marcos Education Foundation announced its Distinguished Alumni Class of 2023 during a ceremony at San Marcos High School on Friday, Oct. 20.
Four Rattler graduates were named to this year’s distinguished alumni class: Stephanie Munoz, Stephanie Reyes, Jon David Perez and city of San Marcos Mayor Jane Hughson.
Munoz was announced as the Class of 2023’s young alumni recipient. She graduated from San Marcos High School in 2007. After serving San Marcos CISD as the Executive Director of Human Resources for several years, Munoz was recently named SMCISD’s Chief of Human Resources.
After graduating from SMHS, Munoz earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Texas State University and received her masters degree from the University of Texas-Tyler. She is currently pursuing a doctoral degree from Abilene Christian University.
Reyes, who graduated from SMHS in 1996, was welcomed to this year’s Distinguished Alumni class during Friday’s ceremony. She currently serves as San Marcos' city manager, the first woman to hold this position. Prior to being named city manager, Reyes has served the city of San Marcos for 22 years in several different capacities, including assistant city manager, chief of staff, assistant director of HR and assistant to the city manager. Following her graduation from SMHS, she earned both her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and master’s degree in public administration from Texas State University.
Perez joined this year’s distinguished alumni class as a member of SMHS’s graduating class of 2000. He is currently the regional manager for Hugo Boss. Perez is an experienced, award-winning, executive-level professional with more than 25 years in retail in both the U.S. and Latin American markets.
Perez has a double BBA in computer information systems and business systems from Texas State University.
Perez has earned multiple awards over the years including Texas State’s Young Alumni Rising Star Under 40 award in 2019.
Hughson, who currently serves as the mayor of San Marcos, was celebrated as a member of the Distinguished Alumni Class of 2023 during Friday’s ceremony. She graduated from SMHS in 1972. Hughson received her bachelor’s degree in education with a math major from Southwest Texas State University. She was the first SWT graduate to earn a teaching certificate for computer science. Additionally, she is certified in math and biology.
Hughson has served as the city’s mayor since 2018 and is currently in her third term.
The San Marcos Education Foundation’s mission is to provide resources to enrich teaching, inspire learning and maximize opportunities for all students in San Marcos CISD. SMEF organizes multiple fundraising events throughout the year to raise funds for students, teachers, and staff of SMCISD.
