City of San Marcos issues September’s proclamations

The City of San Marcos proclaimed the week of Sept. 23-27 GEAR UP Week. San Marcos CISD Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) directly serves over 1,900 students in grades seven through nine, and nation-wide has enabled hundreds of thousands of students to achieve their dreams as a result of GEAR UP grants awarded since 1999.

The City of San Marcos proclaimed September Food Safety Month. The City of San Marcos Environmental Health Department has as its mission to reduce the incidence of foodborne illness and food poisoning through inspections of food businesses, education of those working in food services, investigation of complaints, enforcement of regulations that affect the safety of food, and education of consumers about food safety.

The City of San Marcos proclaimed Sept. 28 Good Neighbor Day. bringing neighbors together builds connectedness, and connectedness builds more satisfying, self-sufficient and effective communities that strengthen our nation as a whole; and the City of San Marcos Neighborhood Enhancement Department is dedicated to realizing the Neighborhood Commission’s vision of “Neighborhoods that are connected, cared for and cherished by those who live there;” and in September 1978, President Jimmy Carter issued proclamation 4601 to recognize National Good Neighbor Day, the words of which continue to ring true in 2019.
