Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos celebrated their annual “Noche de Gala” Saturday evening at the Embassy Suites San Marcos Hotel and Conference Center.
The Keynote Speaker for this year’s gala was notable author and poet Sandra Cisneros. Cisneros is a writer and artist whose work explores the lives of the working-class. Her classic, coming-of-age novel, “The House on Mango Street,” has sold over six million copies, has been translated into over 20 languages, and is required reading in elementary, high school and universities across the nation.

Cisernos spoke about the importance of educational opportunity, passionate teachers and the familial and spiritual connection of knowing your ancestors’ language. She praised Centro for their work in preserving Hispanic culture as well as offering educational opportunities for students. She wrote a $10,000 check to go towards Centro’s programs before the night was over.
The gala also featured entertainment by Texas State University Latin Music Studies Mariachi Lince de Oro and Conjunto and Tejano band Grupo Vidal.
All proceeds from the event benefit Centro and help the organization continue the educational, cultural and STEAM-based programs for area youth.
