Arredondo to seek third term on SMCISD Board of Trustees

Juan Miguel Arredondo has announced his intention to seek reelection to a third term to the San Marcos Consolidated ISD Board of Trustees.

Arredondo was first elected to the board in May 2015 to fill the remaining 2 years of an unexpired term. He won reelection with 63% of the vote in 2017. His announcement comes on the heels of the SMCISD Board calling for an election to vote three trustees in during their regular January meeting this week.

“Serving my hometown and our school district has been a privilege of a lifetime,” Arredondo said in a statement. “As a fifth generation San Marcos native, proud product of our public schools and Texas State University, I can think of no greater cause than the education of our community’s children to dedicate my time.”

Arredondo added that he is proud of the work he’s done as a trustee, focusing on high expectations and equity for every child.

“In less than five years, our school board has committed to graduating all kids college, career, or military ready,” Arredondo said. “We have invested in our employees by approving five constitutive compensation increases – the largest in our district’s history. We passed a bond that is positively impacting every child at every school by providing more classroom space and school improvements without raising taxes. We capped elementary class sizes, offer families a full day pre-k program, added gifted and talented facilitators to every elementary school campus, expanded our district’s music and art programs, launched a dual-language program, implemented a district-wide AVID college access program, and started an early-college high school at San Marcos High School.”

Arredondo added that he’s focused his tenure on the board around his passion to provide much-needed resources for students and staff in most need. Arredondo said he plans to remain focused on improving equity throughout the district, work to improve special education and dyslexia services and expand access to social, emotional and healthcare service in his next term.
