3rd person killed in plane crash identified

Thursday, December 5, 2019

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — A 71-year-old woman from a Houston suburb was the third person killed when a single-engine plane crashed into a commercial part of San Antonio, authorities said Wednesday.

Maureen Garrow, of Spring, was flying with 38-year-old pilot Robert Tyson Womble and 22-year-old college student Eric Naranjo Sunday when their plane went down following a reported engine failure, the San Antonio Express-News reports.

The trio were flying from the Houston area to Boerne, a community about 35 miles (56 kilometers) north west of San Antonio, when Womble reportedly told air traffic controllers their Piper Comanche’s engine had failed. He can be heard on an air traffic control recording calmly requesting a runway to land the plane on before it slammed into the ground about a mile (1.6 kilometers) west of the city’s airport.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
