Last of I-35’s two-way frontage roads being converted this week

Traffic crews are planning overnight Interstate 35 frontage road closures in alternating directions between Posey Road and York Creek Road this week, weather permitting, in order to safely convert the last two-way frontage roads on I-35 in Hays County to one-way.

The northbound I-35 frontage road and Posey Road exit ramp will be closed on Monday, March 11 from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. The southbound I-35 frontage road and York Creek exit ramp will be closed on Tuesday, March 12 from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. During the closures, a detour will be in place so crews can restripe the I-35 frontage roads to a one-way configuration.

The Texas Department of Transporation (TxDOT) says the frontage roads need to be converted to one-way during this phase of work to accommodate the Posey Road bridge demolition that will occur later this spring.

The transformation of I-35 at Posey Road includes constructing a new overpass on I-35 over Posey Road, adding U-turns lanes, performing ramp reversals and converting two-way frontage roads to one-way. Currently, the I-35 mainlanes go under Posey Road. The new configuration will have the I-35 mainlanes going over Posey Road. Bicycle and pedestrian sidewalks and paths will also be added as part of the project.

In the case of inclement weather, these closures may be rescheduled.
