The Heritage Association of San Marcos (HASM) returns with its annual Heritage Home Tour starting Saturday, June 4. This year celebrates 45 years of Heritage Home Tours with the theme of “See, Sip and Savor: In the Historic Gardens of San Marcos.”
The Garden Tour will be held Saturday, June 4, from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. and will combine two of San Marcos’ best attractions: delicious food and rich history. Guests will savor their way through the historic district while sampling southern hospitality and exploring gardens and historic archi tecture. Each home garden will also feature a musical performance by the SMART Orchestra.
The tour will start at 220 N. Johnson Avenue, the Classical Revival home owned by Dr. & Mrs. Ted Dake, where tour-goers can have a mimosa. The second home at 227 N. Mitchell Street is the Greek Revival home of former Ambassador William H. Crook and Mrs. Crook. Guests will be invited to partake in lemonade, cookies and a gourmet charcuterie selection. Next, tour-goers will lace their way through the historic district to enjoy English scones and other sweets at 903 Belvin Street, the Victorian home of Mr. and Mrs. Blake Stasney.
Following the Garden Tour, guests will make their way to 221 North Street for wine in a 1920s-era home, renovated for the Germer Insurance Services office. The final stop on the Garden Tour afternoon is 336 W. Hopkins Street, a 1930s gas station, now a reimagined building known as Zelicks Icehouse. At Zelicks, visitors will find drink specials and live music in a relaxed atmosphere. These two local San Marcos businesses have saved and enhanced their historical properties — preserving the history of the town for current and future generations to enjoy. This year's home tour proceeds will go toward the 2022-2023 renovation costs for the Charles S. Cock House Museum.
Chartered in 1975, HASM has worked to support the preservation of buildings, historic sites and archives, and to perpetuate traditions that beautify and enrich the charm of the San Marcos community. With visitor support, HASM will continue the Riverwalk Beautification Program, Heritage Arbor Day Honors, Cottage Kitchen Luncheons, the Tour of Homes and Spring and Fall events for children.
Tour tickets are limited to the first 400 and are $25 advance/$30 tour day. Tickets can be purchased through the HASM website at heritagesanmarcos.org or the Charles S. Cock House Museum, located in Veramendi Plaza Park at 400 East Hopkins Street, on Fridays from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Those interested in becoming a sponsor, please contact Bronwyn Sergi at 512-757-0730.
