Hays County student awarded OSU scholarship

Laura House of San Marcos was among 93 students earning a DVM degree from Oklahoma State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine on May 7. House is the daughter of Julie and Tom House of San Marcos.

“We are proud of the class of 2021 for overcoming many challenges,” Dr. Carlos Risco, dean of the veterinary college said. “Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the class did not have a ceremony to mark their transition from three years in the classroom to clinics for their final year. With social distancing and other safety measures in place, the beginning of their clinical training looked different with minimal client contact and limited physical time in the clinic. Our students and faculty persevered and I am proud to call them colleagues.”

Earlier this year, the veterinary college awarded $541,860 in scholarships to 158 students. House received a Robert G. and Karen F. Beach Scholarship for her interest in small animal medicine and surgery.
