The Broke Thespians Theatre Company will present a staged reading of “Acanthus“ as part of the company’s New Works Series on Dec. 9 at the San Marcos Public Library.

BTTC will conduct a dramatized reading of local playwright Jordan Morille’s newest work. Afterward, audience members will be invited to engage in the creative process with a question-and-answer session with the playwright and creative team.

“Acanthus” by Jordan Morille tells the story of Morgan, a saloon owner in 1887 Texas who faces a challenge when a widowed rancher named Temperance storms in seeking retribution for her slain rooster, Acanthus, at the hands of the local head groom, Holt. Morgan strives to maintain order amid chaos, drawing a variety of characters into the conflict, which leads to unforeseen consequences.

This event is free and light refreshments will be provided. No registration is required. The production contains mature themes. For more information, contact the Broke Thespians at [email protected]
