Texas State University recognized seven scholarship recipients at the football game against Georgia Southern, in promotion of the annual Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation Houston Awards Dinner on Nov. 15. This year, the foundation will be honoring Bill Hobson, former Senior Vice President at UBS Wealth Management & current farmer/ rancher with the Semper Fidelis Award. This year’s Military Guest of Honor is Lieutenant General Martin R. Steele USMC (Ret.).

Rebecca Minnick has announced her candidacy for Commissioner, Hays County Precinct 3. Minnick is currently serving her third term as Place One Council Member for the city of Wimberley.

Two new school safety funding measures passed out of committee Friday that could bring $1.3 billion more to Texas public schools.

The Texas Legislature, conceived as a part-time body to meet every other year for 140 days, is now in its record fifth session (counting the regular session). When the impeachment trial of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is included, legislators have been in Austin pretty much the entire year, as the Texas Tribune noted. While legislators are paid just $7,200 a year in salary, per diem payments – meant to cover their expenses while in Austin – have mounted. If the fourth special session goes a full 30 days, taxpayers will have spent $4.8 million keeping lawmakers in Austin.

Texas State was unable to overcome a 31-10 hole as the Bobcats fell to the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, 31-23.

In one of the biggest wins of the season up to this point, Texas State knocked off the Bowling Green Falcons, a 30 win team from a season ago, en route to a 74-48 win as part of the Sun Belt-Mid American Conference Challenge.
