At the Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens, it was the Copper Canyon daisy that was guaranteed to put all visitors under a spell from the smell. It happened on a regular basis. After a class, I would take the students or clients on a personal tour of the garden. We would exit the side door of the conference center right into the Mediterranean Garden and instantly, they became fixated on a shrubby marigold with a tantalizing fragrance.

Columnist’s Note: My journey this week has returned to my friend, Paul Buntyn, Pastor Emeritus of Abundant Life Christian Church in San Marcos, Texas.

Following a year of outdoor, socially-distanced and live streamed performances, The Wimberley Players have announced another season of shows for 2022.

One of the most revered names in birding would have to be John James Audubon. Today, there are numerous birding societies and a national magazine named in his honor.

Maurice T. Suttles VFW Post 3413 recently honored the Patriot Pen, Voice of Democracy winners and recognized San Marcos’ outstanding teachers .

Maurice T. Suttles VFW Post 3413 thanked CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - San Marcos, Mensor Cares, Dr. Van de Walle Family Dentistry, Todd and Kayla at H-E-B #2/455 and SeaWorld San Antonio for sponsoring its Christmas Party. The VFW would also thanked the youngest member of the VFW Auxiliary — Adelina Flores — along with Mike Flores, Commander Stephanie Brown, Abril Flores, Kathy Prather, for serving food for veterans provided by Chuy’s. VFW post 3413 also thanked Gy. Sgt. Sean Turner and Sgt. Aaron Jasso for collecting the box of toys that the VFW Auxiliary and VFW had collected for Toys for Tots.

I remind myself that the purpose of my column is about people and their relationship with Jesus Christ. With the impact the COVID-19 has had on our world, we now spend less time outside the home. It follows we have more time for reflection, Bible study, and prayer. We can meditate on how we can live in “peace within” no matter what challenges we face. The world is calling Believers to be genuine as we “practice what we preach.”

On a mild winter day, I recently visited the Patsy Glenn Refuge in Wimberley and sat for a while in the large bird blind at the back of this two-acre property.
