Gov. Abbott needs to rethink who he will support in 2024?

It’s not like we really thought this would go differently, but we were still disappointed to see Gov. Greg Abbott endorse Donald Trump for the GOP presidential nomination. Not shocked, not even a little surprised, but disappointed nonetheless.

Paths for high-speed rail services in Texas
Paths for high-speed rail services in Texas

As congestion and accidents plague our roadways, innovative transportation solutions are key to sustaining our region’s rapid growth. Though it seems utopian in Texas, highspeed rail could be a huge boon for the state if implemented strategically.

Hang your Christmas lights, but be careful doing it
Hang your Christmas lights, but be careful doing it

Each year the weekend after Thanksgiving, I sense an innate urge to risk life, limb and public humiliation by festooning the exterior of our home with several hundred C9 incandescent lights. [I’m still resisting the whole LED craze– also known as “the Devil’s bulbs.”] My mild-mannered next-door neighbor and I always engage in an unspoken competition to see who can get their Christmas lights up first, but since I have the holiday sleeping habits of an inebriated grizzly bear in mid-hibernation, he consistently wins–after which he undoubtedly enjoys shouting, “Let me know if you need any help up there,” as I cling desperately to the shingles while those little granules clatter in the aluminum rain gutters –portending my likely doom.

Abbott: Battle continues over vouchers

As time runs out next week on the fourth special session, Gov. Greg Abbott said he will continue to fight for school choice, despite the Texas House once again decisively rejecting it when 21 Republicans largely from rural districts joined Democrats in stripping it from a $7.6 billion education bill. Only choice on vouchers is to say no to them
Only choice on vouchers is to say no to them

The state’s constitutionally mandated public education system is teetering for many reasons, and one of them is the influence of Texas billionaires who have bankrolled the push for private school vouchers.

Dear Abby
Sister has a penchant for telling unbelievable tales

DEAR ABBY: Over the years, my younger sister, “Hannah,” has been lying about some significant things, such as: She claims she was there alone with our dad when he died; that our older sister tried to talk her into signing herself into a state mental hospital; that my boyfriend was imaginary, etc.

Boss has taken advantage of employee’s kind offer

DEAR ABBY: My boss, who recently separated from her husband and is getting divorced, has moved within walking distance of work. The problem is, she can’t drive, and her daughter needs to be taken to and from school. I offered to help her out with her daughter, but now she’s asking me to take her everywhere she needs to go.
