It was a day for celebration in San Marcos as offensive lineman Ory Williams signed his national letter of intent to play for the Louisiana State Tigers. He becomes the second San Marcos High School Rattler in the past two years to sign with an SEC school behind now Vanderbilt basketball player Malik Presley.
I had mentioned a few weeks ago about getting the book ‘Running Up The Mountain’ about the success of the Northern Arizona University cross country team. I had an interest because the team started up when a teammate of mine in football and track became the head coach in 1964. I was there for four of those start up years as the wrestling coach and professor in physical education. The book continues on through the years, right up to 2022 about the different runners that made the team so successful. It goes into the personality of the runners and the training methods they followed.
Head Coach G.J. Kinne signed a new five year contract extension through the 2028 season to make the first year head coach one of the highest paid coaches in the Sun Belt Conference.
Texas State signed 22 new players to their roster as part of the early signing day.
After a stellar week on the hardwood, Texas State sophomore guard Jordan Mason was chosen as the Sun Belt Conference’s Player of the Week on Tuesday. It is the first time he has earned the honor in his career.
San Marcos took down Smithson Valley 74-60 in a game full of momentum swings, with the Rattlers starting off hot and then pulling away in the second half. San Marcos was able to push the pace and outrun the Rangers in transition, but also got stops with physical defense and solid shot contests in the half-court game.
