Rotary Club awards scholarships in San Marcos

The smell of broth, onions and cilantro filled the air of the Hays County Courthouse lawn and spirits were high as the Annual Menudo Throwdown Saturday brought hundreds of people to the square.

The unofficial, preliminary votes for Saturday’s uniform election are in and San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District officials are celebrating a clean sweep in the passage of its four bond propositions.

As motorcycle fatalities continue to rise and the spring weather draws more riders to Texas roadways, TxDOT is urging drivers to look twice and be considerate on the road around motorcycle riders.

Clock ticking on moving bills The clock is ticking on getting bills out of the House and to the Texas Senate, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick warned last week in a story in the Austin American- Statesman. Patrick presides over the Senate and is worried many bills that have made it out of House committees but have not gone before the full chamber will not be considered before the session ends.

In a surprise move days after the Allen mall shooting and hours before a key legislative deadline, a Texas House committee advanced a bill Monday that would raise the minimum age to purchase certain semi-automatic rifles.

Hays County Criminal District Attorney Kelly Higgins announced that a Hays County grand jury had concluded its review of a Dec. 25, 2022, shooting incident in which San Marcos Police Department officers shot and killed 36-year-old Kyle Lobo.
