Two shooting incidents reported in San Marcos

Two shooting incidents reported in San Marcos

The San Marcos Police Department investigated two non-fatal shootings in the span of three days, resulting in the arrest of one suspect.

SMPD received a call reporting a shooting near a residence on Armstrong St. on Sunday, Sept. 20 at approximately 7:55 p.m. Police said a caller reported that two suspects fled from the scene after shooting a victim in his back. SMPD arrived and found the victim with a gunshot wound to his lower back, police said. SMPD said the victim only stated that he was “buying a pressure washer from his friend” when the shooting happened.

The victim was transported to Ascension Seton Hays Hospital in Kyle with non-life-threatening injuries

Police said one subject fled on foot but was later detained as he tried to leave the neighborhood on foot. SMPD transported him to its headquarters for questioning. Police did not identify the person who was questioned.

SMPD later identified a second suspect as Luis Jordan Sanchez, 28, after he was stopped when an officer observed a minor traffic violation on Rio Vista St. on Monday, Sept. 21. Sanchez was detained and arrested, police said. SMPD added that a firearm which is believed to have been used in the shooting was located in Sanchez’s vehicle along with narcotics.

Police then responded to a second non-fatal shooting at approximately 9:27 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22. SMPD said it received a call stating that an individual at a business near the 1100 block of State Highway 80 had been shot in the face. Police said the caller reported that several individuals fled the scene in multiple vehicles.

SMPD said officers arrived on the scene but were not able to locate a victim. Witnesses reported that a verbal argument occurred in a parking lot near the business where they said a white or light-skinned Hispanic male ran from the area after shots were fired, police said. Police said a suspect was later described as a white or Hispanic male accompanied by a white or Hispanic female with black hair and blonde streaks.

The victim was identified and contacted by phone, SMPD said. The victim agreed to meet an officer but SMPD said he didn’t show up. Police said his injuries were non-life-threatening.

Investigations into these matters are ongoing.
