Texas State junior quarterback Tyler Vitt received two weekly honors after his performance in a 38-17 win over Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday.
The San Antonio MacArthur graduate completed 14-of-21 passes for 256 yards and two touchdowns while also adding 82 rushing yards on 11 carries in the road victory. Vitt was then named to the Davey O’Brien Foundation’s “Week 3 Great 8” and the Manning Award’s “Stars of the Week” lists.
Vitt’s selection in the “Great 8” earns him a nomination for the O’Brien Quarterback of the Week award along with Notre Dame senior Ian Book, SMU senior Shane Buechele, UCF sophomore Dillon Gabriel, Boston College sophomore Phil Jurkovec, Miami senior D’Eriq King, Pittsburgh senior Kenny Pickett and Liberty junior Malik Willis. The winner will be announced on Wednesday.
Buechele, Gabriel, Jurkovec, King and Pickett were also named to the “Stars of the Week” list along with Vitt, Louisiana Tech senior Luke Anthony and Navy senior Dalen Morris. Fans can vote for the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week by visiting the Allstate Sugar Bowl Facebook page. Voting will close at 11 a.m. on Thursday.
Vitt and the Bobcats (1-2, 1-0 Sun Belt) will go up against Jurkovec and the Golden Eagles (1-0, 1-0 ACC) on Saturday, the game between Texas State and Boston College scheduled for 5 p.m.
