The San Marcos Public Library, in conjunction with the Hays County Master Gardeners, will be holding a Spring Vegetable Gardening class on Wednesday, Feb. 27 from 6 to 7 p.m.
The class will help jumpstart gardening season this year, with Hays County Master Gardener Vegetable Specialist Suzanne Love's in depth discussion about the importance of proper plan-ning and site selection, soil preparation, plant and seed selection, regular watering and other tools and tips for a bountiful harvest.
According to Love, most plant issues boil down to poor soil maintenance.
"When you look at some of the problems that plants can have, you immediately think, 'Oh I need to get some bug spray out,' when really it's a soil deficiency,"Love said.
She will discuss when and how to amend soil, when and best tips for planting seedlings and seeds and how to create a regular watering schedule using methods developed by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.
This program in a part of the Master Gardeners public outreach to increase the availability of horticultural information and extend horticultural projects throughout the community.
