Lane changes on Sessom Drive between Aquarena Springs to Ed JL Green have gone into effect as the waterline repair work along Sessom Drive continues.
Lanes are restriped and traffic controls will shift the traffic to the south (university) side of the roadway and result in one lane northbound and one lane southbound. The two regular northbound lanes will be closed from Aquarena Springs Drive to Ed JL Green.
The lane change will be in effect for approximately 2-3 weeks while construction crews excavate the bore pit and install the waterline under the Sessom Creek culvert.
The existing 80-year-old water main has already been replaced through the Sessom-Aquarena Springs Dr. intersection and from Ed JL Green southwards to the Sessom Creek culvert. The whole project is due to be complete by March 1, weather permitting.
Traffic delays are anticipated as a result of the lane closures and motorists are reminded to use caution in and around the construction zone. Traffic control personnel will be on site directing traffic.
Upon completion of the waterline work, the city’s Transportation Department will schedule a mill and overlay to complete their paving work, started last year, along Sessom Drive down to the Aquarena Springs Drive intersection.
