State concludes indoor regular season with strong showing

Texas State is firing on all cylinders at the perfect time. In the Bobcats’ last meet before the Sun Belt Indoor Championships, the men’s and women’s teams each placed in the top two of the Jaguar Invitational on Sunday at South Alabama.

The men finished in second place with 113 points. Sophomore Brandon Busby and senior T’Mond Johnson put on a strong showing in the field, taking first in their respective events. Busby eclipsed 18.23 meters in the hammer throw and Johnson went for 18.52 meters in the shot put.

Pedro Osorio Lopez also picked up a victory for the maroon and gold. The freshmen was the first to cross the finish line in the men’s 800 meters with a time of 1:53.25.

The women collected 184 points, anchored by seven event wins, and won the meet outright.

Redshirt junior Devina Schneider broke Texas State record in the mile, finishing in 4:52.88. Redshirt senior Tramesha Hardy and junior Naomi Ferdinand each picked up meet records with a 23.81-second 200-meter dash and a 5.94-meter long jump, respectively.

The Bobcats performance was a perfect way to end the regular season. Texas State will return to Birmingham, Alabama on Feb. 18 for the conference indoor championships.

"It was a great weekend," head coach Jody Stewart said. "Both teams competed well. We are currently competing at our best at the right time of the season and bringing good momentum into the (Sun Belt) conference championships."
