County to revisit flood warnings

County to revisit flood warnings

Flood control, work toward a greater live outcome rate at the animal shelter and a new home for Hays County Child Protective Services are all part of this morning’s agenda for the Hays County Commissioners Court.

The court will consider authorizing a contract with the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) for a Flood Protection Plan Grant for the expansion of the county’s Early Flood Warning Monitoring System. The county submitted a grant application last summer for a TWDB grant in the amount of $285,370 with a 50 percent matching requirement of $142,685 from the county to expand the monitoring system. The planning area for the expansion includes Plum Creek, Cypress Creek, the San Marcos River, the Blanco River and Onion Creek.

The commissioners will also consider appointing Precinct 1 Commissioner Debbie Ingalsbe and Precinct 3 Commissioner Lon Shell to the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter 90 Percent Live Outcome Implementation Plan Committee. Each government partner agency that works with the animal shelter -- San Marcos, Kyle, Buda and Hays County -- has two spots on the committee, with other positions going to representatives from Mutt Strutt, PALS, PAWS, Hays County Animal Advocates, shelter staff and shelter volunteers.

In other business, the commissioners are expected to consider locating the Hays County Child Protective Services at 401-C Broadway Street. A short presentation is slated to be provided in court this morning.

The Hays County Commissioners Court will meet at 9 a.m. on the third floor of the Hays County Courthouse, 111 San Antonio St. Meetings are also streamed live
