The city dedicated a group of “mini murals” by local artist Rene Perez during a ceremony downtown on Saturday, Jan. 19.
Bundled up against the cold, Janey Poole, Dianne Wassenich and Mayor Jane Hughson listen to the speeches in celebration of the work of local artist and muralist Rene Perez for the city’s Mural Arts Program.
Perez is the creator of 10 “mini murals” depicting whimsical animal characters in spots around the city:
- “Cat Pie” at 119 E. Hopkins
- “Cupig” at Kissing Alley
- “Rats” at Kissing Alley
- “Birdhouse” at Dunbar Park
- “Heron/Bottle” at Rio Vista Park near the Lions Club tube pickup
- “Squirrel with Trumpet” at the stage in Plaza Park
- “Goats on Wall” at 302 W. Hopkins
- “Heron with Butts” at 345 N. LBJ
- "Rattlesnake/Bobcat” at 120 E. San Antonio Street
- “Trash Fish” at Rio Vista Park near the Ranger Station
The city’s Mural Arts Program commissions murals and provides grants and design assistance to artists in an effort to place murals on public and private property throughout the city.
