Larry Paul Diegelman ended his courageous struggle with Lewy Body Dementia on February 17, 2020. He was born on January 9, 1942 in McKeesport, PA, the oldest son of Francis and Ruth Diegelman. Larry joined the Air Force in January 1960, retiring 23 years later as a Captain with multiple awards and honors to his credit plus a college degree in management. His career path in civilian life was in the field of information technology; retiring once again after working for five years in the IT Department at Texas State University. But IT was just a job; his passion was the thrill of owning, retooling, driving, and racing his Mustangs. Even in the latter stages of his cruel disease, he could identify the throaty growl of a Mustang 5.0 or Cobra and you'd see that familiar Larry smile we all loved.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his son Robert Diegelman, and his daughter Kay Roszak. He is survived by his soulmate, the love of his life, his wife Sue; his brother John Diegelman (Beverly), son Richard Diegelman (Jana), step-sons Steve Voorhies (Laura) & Bob Voorhies (Beth), and step-daughter Carol Devall (Jim); plus eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the caregivers of Nurses Unlimited who made it possible for him to remain at home as long as he did. Also, the staff of Sodalis Memory Care and CTMC Hospice who cared for Larry in his last month with us. They helped Larry and the family navigate those last painful days and hours.
There will be a Celebration of Larry's Life held on Saturday April 18, 2020, 11 a.m., at First Christian Church, 3105 Ranch Road 12, San Marcos, TX. The family requests in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice.
