The Lady Rattlers went 3-2 at a tournament this weekend, playing games in Bryan, Franklin and Tomball and earning their first wins of the 2020 season.
San Marcos began the tournament with a 7-3 loss to Fort Worth Brewer on Thursday, but bounced back with a 3-0 shutout over Victoria West later on. The team kept the good times rolling on Friday, dominating Cedar Creek, 8-0, and edging out San Antonio Brandeis, 4-3.
The purple and white ended the tournament with a 14-3 loss to San Antonio Southwest on Saturday, though head coach Cathy Stoughton felt her players came out “a little flat” due to the game’s 8 a.m. start time.
The Lady Rattlers are now 3-3 on the season. Senior Andrea Garcia and junior Kaylee Cavazos are tied for the team lead with a .500 batting average, each making 14 appearances at the plate. Garcia holds a slight advantage in RBIs with seven to Cavazos’ six. Senior Heavenny Garcia and freshman Kaylie Juergens have split the team’s starts in the circle. Garcia’s earned a 1-2 record with a 5.83 ERA and strikeouts while Juergens holds a 2-1 record with a 4.32 ERA and eight strikeouts.
San Marcos hosted Cornerstone Christian at home on Tuesday, the game ending after press time. The Lady Rattlers will play in the Northeast tournament this weekend.
