Federal investigation results in 12 arrests in Seguin area

Twenty-one people were indicted, including 12 suspects arrested in the Seguin area on Tuesday, stemming from a two-year federal investigation.

Jesse Ricky Escobedo, Anna Flota, Reynaldo Gil, Brandon Graves, Brian Martinez, Sally Moreno, Juan Eugenio Perales, Raquel Rivera, Tanilo George Rodriguez, Michael Schmidt, Ronald Clark and Russell Bosquez were arrested in the Seguin area in connection with the investigation.

In September 2017, the San Antonio District Office Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force initiated Operation Sinner — a long-term investigation targeting heroin, cocaine and crystal methamphetamine activities of a drug-trafficking organization operating in the greater Seguin and San Antonio areas.

The investigation began as a local investigation looking into heroin and methamphetamine distributors in Seguin and evolved into a long-term drug conspiracy identifying and disrupting the transportation network and source of supply of the narcotics being smuggled from the Republic of Mexico into the greater South Texas area, according to a press release from the Seguin Police Department.

Officials said evidence was presented to a federal grand jury in the Western District of Texas on Feb. 5, securing the indictment of 21 people in the investigation on charges ranging from conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine; possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine; possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug crime; aiding and abetting; and conspiracy to launder monetary instruments.

The OCDETF Strike Force coordinated six search warrants and 12 arrests in the Seguin area, officials said. Three additional arrest warrants were given in Fort Worth.

The enforcement operation was a coordinated event with multiple federal, state and local law enforcement agencies consisting of the Drug Enforcement Administration, US Marshals Service, Internal Revenue Service, Texas Department of Public Safety, the Seguin Police Department, the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Department, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, the Terrell Hills Police Department and the Hays County Narcotics Task Force.

Prior to this operation, the investigation resulted in the arrest of 47 suspects, the seizure of approximately 22 kilograms of methamphetamine, 1 kilogram of cocaine, 400 grams of crack cocaine and 145 grams of heroin.
